Are silver coated materials allergenic?
There are no known allergens to silver and it is completely natural. Allergic reactions to “sterling silver” are caused by metals or impurities in the alloy. Carolina Silver uses only pure 100% silver in all applications.
Is silver coating anti-microbial?
Ag3+ has a 99% kill rate within one hour of exposure, when applied directly to a burn or wound site. The Ag3+ “Silver Reservoir” is resistant to bacteria and fungus, outperforming synthetic products and all-natural compounds.
Are Silver Coated products conductive?
Ag3+ is highly conductive and can be engineered to meet specific technical applications. Uses include static electricity reduction, heat and coolness dissipation, shielding against electromagnetic interference and anti-static properties.
Is silver coating safe?
Silver is used in a variety of consumer and commercial applications. The benefits of silvers antibacterial properties have been proven by various independent sources and often published in medical journals. Carolina Silver's products are EPA® approved and our customer's medical applications are FDA® approved.
How are silver coated materials tested?
Ag3+ fiber, yarn or fabric is tested to ensure compliance with the EPA® and Oeko-Tex®. Each lot of Ag3+ is checked for variations in colors, textures and weights, for a consistent quality controlled product.
How much silver is applied to the materials?
The amount of silver can be modified to meet customer specifications but the standard Ag3+ product contains approximately 17% pure silver by weight. Other metal coatings are available including Copper, Tin, Nickel, FR, Carbon, Acrylic, Urethane and various combinations of multiple layered metal coatings. Inhibitor coatings are also available.
How long does silver coating last?
Ag3+ will last for the normal life of a garment or product. The manufacturing process permanently bonds the silver within the surface of the fiber. This process evenly distributes the active silver ions and creates a permanent layer. Ag3+ has been tested out to 50 washes with little detriment in performance.
